poem: we live in parts of speech

we live in parts of speech

in the sacred space of the indefinite

observations haggle for location

setting about on its apex

their phrase        our clause

she nouns        he verbs

your imperfect        my indicative

forgoing each other’s footnotes

declaring parentheses

action’s louder, but word is genesis of

everything

We live in parts of speech

imperative, indicative

mismatched wit

symbolic overload

whistling off-key each other’s favourite tune

the road to love

is paved adverbially

past and future tension

boldly dangling
